Hyuga-shi Station

The design of JR Hyuga-shi Station was designed to have a light and transparent atmosphere, and to become a symbol of Hyuga City. As a public facility, high durability was also required. The shed has a span of 17.2m and covers the area of 2000㎡so as to accommodate100m long limited expresses under it. A timber structure was applied for the train shed, which was rare in Japan. The major issue of the shed was the requirement for the stiffness and strength of the structure against horizontal forces due to winds in the transverse direction. As the solution a timber-steel hybrid structure consisting of beams with laminated wood of local Cryptmeria japonica and spatially formed steel tube columns was adopted.
