Ceramic Park MINO is the first complex facility in Japan that aims at combining industry and culture of chinaware which Gifu Prefecture has been very proud of. In the main gallery very precious pieces of modern and contemporary chinaware collected worldwide are exhibited. Conventional means to protect the exhibits against earthquake motion has been such as to keep them in isolation boxes or to stay them with strings to the tables. In the present design the floor of the whole main gallery is designed to be isolated from the horizontal ground motion by means of translational pendulum system, which is the first application in Japan.
