- Type of Structure
- Air-supported structures
Two pavilions were designed for the 12th World Orchids Conference held in Tokyo in 1987. Mesh-reinforced air structure was applied to these pavilions. Dome 1 of the Pavilion is a circular plan, 75m in diameter, with a height of 19.5m. The air dome is reinforced by two-way wire ropes spaced at 5m. Each bay of the dome, bounded by wire ropes, is structurally constituted by fishing net of 10cm mesh with transparent PVC film of 0.1mm thickness for air-tightness placed inside the net. Dome 2 is shaped like a worm that is 40m wide and 100m long. The dome is reinforced by wire ropes mainly in the transverse and radial directions, with the longitudinal reinforcement only along the ridge. The constitution of the skin is the same as in Dome1.
