The present design was awarded as the result of an international competition held by Tianjin City. The aim of the city authority for this international competition was to redevelop the Haihua River, so that the city would become recognized worldwide as a city of tourism. On the basis of the information that a Ferris wheel in London, “London Eye”, had brought a 2% increase in the overall number of tourists visiting London, the idea of a bridge with an integrated Ferris wheel was proposed in the competition design. Additionally, whereas the London Eye turns alongside the river, the wheel of our design moves across the river.
